MASTERING DESKTOP 3D PRINTING FOR THE 3D ARTIST WITH DANIEL ENRIQUE DE LEON
Click the title link directly above
to learn the advanced art and essential engineering for the successful 3D Printing of your chosen 3D model on a prosumer-level, desktop 3D Printer of either the FDM or SLA kind. (e.g. MakerBot Replicator 2 or Formlabs Form 2). If you can imagine and model it, this workshop will teach you how to print nearly anything you want. With focuses in standards and best practices for how to create excellent, professional grade 3D Print ready models, how to hollow out or "shell" a model to have consistent wall thicknesses, how to modify a model that was originally made for a Video Game or VFX, what pitfalls to watch out for, and how to properly scale and size your models for either one modestly sized print, or how to create a massive, multiple-part-spanning 3D Printed model that will look as though it was printed as all one part. Daniel guides you with tested advice for how to model/digitally sculpt a 3D model from scratch, bring it into ZBrush and successfully 3D Print your next or first physical model. Topics include how to create ‘keys’, identify and correct errors, wall thickness, drainage holes, orientation, supports, optimizing the printer and how to construct an efficient UV Cure Box for SLA resin prints.
For a limited time, FormLabs is offering all Gnomon Workshop subscribers a special promotion for anyone who purchases a Form 2 printer via the provided link in the project files of this course.

Dropbox Chrome Panda Mascot
During the Christmas holiday season of 2015 I was hired by Rapt Studio of Los Angeles, CA to design the 3D model of Dropbox's new mascot, their Chrome Panda. Fully designed & sculpted in ZBrush 4R7, it was a fun privilege to design it and refine its look with Rapt & the Dropbox design lead. All together my work took about 3 weeks to complete, and once I prepared the files for 3D Printing/CNCing, they were handed off to Rapt for GUILD to CNC all the parts out of high-density foam, coated in resin, sanded & then finally Vacuum Form Metalized to give it the authentic look of beautiful, polished chrome. You can see & read more about it in my interview with Pixologic, makers of ZBrush here: http://pixologic.com/interview/dropbox/
Ebola Virus Molecular Anatomy 3D Animation
3D Animation for the education of medical professionals working on the ground in Liberia, Africa, fighting for the lives of people either with, or at risk of contracting the Ebola virus. The 3D modeling, Arraying, Rendering, Animation, & Camera Motion were all done using only ZBrush 4R7 (beta version) prior to its public release. Every model is molecularly accurate thanks to the direction of my exceptional Ph.D consultants from the world-renowned Scripps Research Institute and Laboratories in La Jolla, CA and the online PDB (Protein Data Bank). Also a very special thanks to my friends at Pixologic for inviting me into the 4R7 Beta Team
